ADULT LEADERS YOUTH TRAINING WORKSHOP:

The first of a two day Youth Training Workshop took place at The Rectory, Park, Wexford on Saturday 22nd February, 2020 from 10.00a.m. until 4.00p.m. with a break for lunch at 1.00p.m.  A follow up session will take place on Saturday 4th April, 2020 from 10.00a.m.

 to 1.00p.m. at The Rectory, Park, Wexford which will be convened again by Ms. Emma Lynch under the Tear Fund Global Justice Programme.  Most of these training programmes now take place in Dublin and it is a great opportunity to have Emma travelling down to Wexford for this training.  Please contact the Clergy or Rita at the Parish office.

 FAMILY SERVICE:

Family Service will take place on Sunday 1st March, 2020 in St. Iberius’ Church at 11.15a.m.  Prayers, readings and music will be led by young people of the Parish.  Any young people who have not previously been involved should contact Canon Arthur or Revd Conor as we very much want to include as many as possible.

BIBLE STUDY:

Bible Study will take place at The Rectory, Park on Wednesday evenings 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th March, 2020.  All are welcome to join us for as many evenings as you may find available.

KILSCORAN PARISH TABLE QUIZ:

A Table Quiz in aid of the Kilscoran end of the Union will take place in The Farmers Kitchen, Wexford on Thursday, 5th March, 2020 at 8.00p.m.  (Please note change of time),

€5-00 per person or €20-00 per table of four.  Please do contact your friends and make up a table where possible or just arrive on the night as a number of tables will be glad to have extras to make up a table. These are very enjoyable (and not too challenging) social evenings.  All welcome.

WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER:

The Annual World Day of Prayer Service will take place on Friday 6th March,

2020 in St. Iberius’ Church at 8.00p.m.  The service this year has been formulated by Christians in Zimbabwe, Africa. All are warmly invited to attend. This service circulates among the churches of the respective denominations here in Wexford.  Please do encourage your neighbours and friends to attend.

MOTHERS’ UNION:

The next meeting of The Mother’s Union will take place on Tuesday 10th March, 2020 at The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 2.30p.m.  A presentation will be given by Ms. Jennifer Syme.

WEXFORD & KILSCORAN SELECT VESTRY:

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, 19th March, 2020 in The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 8.00p.m.

WEXFORD LIGHT OPERA SOCIETY:

Wexford Light Opera Society will hold a concert in St. Iberius’ Church on Thursday 19th March, 2020 at 8.00p.m.

CONFIRMATION REHEARSAL 2020:

The rehearsal will take place in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford on Friday 20th March, 2020 at 7.00p.m.   All candidates are requested to attend. Bishop Michael Burrows will preside and any apologies that may arise as a result of an emergency must be made directly to him.  Bishop Michael will require the candidates only for the rehearsal.  The rehearsal is just one hour in duration and parents may then collect candidates at 8.00p.m.

CONFIRMATION SERVICE 2020:                     

The Confirmation Service 2020 will take place on Saturday 21st March, 2020 in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford at 3.30p.m.  Please remember in your prayers the Confirmation Class of this year:  Gordon Wallace, Rachel Kirwan, Charlie Bramley, Molly Redmond Kearney, Sara-Jane Tector, Laura Simmons, William Hawkins and also Isobel McRedmond who will be making her confirmation in Enniscorthy.  Members of the congregation are asked to attend in support of these young people making their commitment to the church of Jesus Christ and confirmation of their faith in him.

CONFIRMATION RETREAT:  The dates of the Confirmation Retreat have just come in.  The Retreat will be in Kilkenny College from Friday, 24th. April to Sunday 26th. April 2020.

FERNS DIOCESAN ECUMENICAL SOCIETY:

The 2020 Spring Quiet Day will take place on Tuesday 31st March, 2020 in St. John of God Retreat Centre, Ballyvaloo, Blackwater, Co. Wexford beginning at 11.15a.m. until 4.00p.m.

Canon Arthur Minion will give a presentation titled 'God's World and Climate Change'.

A fee of €25.00 covers lunch and coffee/tea on arrival and departure.

EASTER GENERAL VESTRY:

The Easter General Vestry meeting will take place on Tuesday 31st March, 2020 at The Farmer’s Kitchen, Drinagh, Wexford at 8.00p.m.  All persons over the age of 18 years wishing to be recognised as a parishioner of Wexford and Kilscoran Union should formally register with the Parish.  Registration forms are available from Rita at the Parish Office, St. Iberius’ Church, North Main Street, Wexford.  All registered persons are requested to attend the meeting of our Easter General Vestry and are eligible to stand and to vote in the formation of our new Select Vestry.

SABBATICAL:

Canon Arthur will be taking a sabbatical from Friday 24th April, 2020 until the end of July 2020, returning the week before the parish field day at Johnstown Castle on Bank Holiday Monday, 3rdAugust, 2020.  The Revd Conor will be on duty throughout this period and he will be assisted by Mr. Ciarán Kavanagh and Mr. Peter Hudson in chaplaincy and Sunday duties.

ST IBERIUS’ 4 DAY FAST:

This year our charities included St Vincent de Paul, Wexford, Ozanam House Men’s Hostel, Wexford, Wexford Women’s Refuge, Wexford Hospice Home Care, Hope Cancer Support, It’s Good 2 Talk, and The Collective Sensory Group (Children with Autism).  The amount raised this year well exceeded all expectation resulting in an amazing figure of €54,510. This figure was divided among each of the charities at the presentation of cheques which took place on Wednesday 8th January, 2020 at 1.00p.m. in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford:

Thank you to all who have given so generously again this year.  A special word of thanks to Ms. Maria Pepper and The Wexford People, Mr. Alan Corcoran and South East Radio, Westgate Design for soup and coffee and Daybreak, North Main Street for providing us with bottled water.  Thank you to the treasurers of the fast who helped count and lodge the money during the four days, Mr Peter Hudson, Mr. Brian McGonagle, Mrs. Rita Codd, Mrs. Francoise Davison and Mrs Ella Hudson.  Also to Mr. Edmond O’Byrne who provided us with the large Christmas tree in St. Iberius’ Church (now in its 7th year).  To all those who helped with the transportation and installation of the Christmas tree, especially Mr. Michael Paget, Mr. Irvin Rothwell, Mr. Callum Rothwell, Mr. Nigel Hamilton, Mr. Peter Hudson Mr. Michael Lawal and Mr. Martin Pitman.  Thank you to Mr. Brian Byrne, Lantern Events for the provision of our Memorial Lights Tree at the front of the church which brought in €1,200.00.

MOTHER’S UNION:

The Mothers’ Union “Get Together” took place in The Rectory on Tuesday 21st January, 2020 at 2.00p.m. Thank you to all the ladies who attended and the delicious starter dishes and desserts they provided.  Thank you also to Mrs. Susan Minion for providing the main course.  A total of €300.00 was received in donations for the Mother’s Union Overseas Fund. The February meeting of the Mothers’ Union will take place in The Rectory, Park on Tuesday 11th February at 2.30p.m.  A talk will be given by Ms. Therese Carton on “Cultural Companions”.

SELECT VESTRY:

A Select Vestry meeting took place on Monday 27th January, 2020 at The Rectory, Park, Wexford.  All parishioners should record in their diary the date of The Easter General Vestry Meeting which takes place on Tuesday 31st March, 2020 at 8.00p.m. Venue to be confirmed.

The United Diocesan Inter Church Service for Christian Unity Week took place in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford on Sunday 19th January, 2020 at 7.30p.m.  Thank you to all who attended and those who assisted with tea and refreshments afterwards, not least our Churchwardens at St. Iberius’ Church.

BIBLE STUDY:  The next Bible Study will take place on Wednesday 5th February, 2020 at The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 7.30p.m.  Please note Study days have changed from Monday to Wednesday each week.

SOUTH EAST RADIO BROADCAST:

Rev. Conor will lead the broadcast service on South East Radio on Sunday 16th February, 2020 at 10.00a.m.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION DATES:

Two dates are important for attendance – Saturday 8th February from 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. and again on Thursday 20th February from 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. at The Rectory,  Park, Wexford.  Refreshments and lunch will be provided for the candidates.  Canon Arthur should be advised of any dietary needs

A Beetle Drive for the National School age group with parents will take place in Balloughton Parish Hall on Friday 28th February, 2020 at 7.00p.m.  Please note that all children attending should be accompanied by at least one parent/guardian.  All welcome.  Bookings should be made by text to Rita (in the Parish Office) on (087) 3875334.

IRISH CANCER SOCIETY:

The Irish Cancer Society’s ‘Volunteer Driver Service’ offers a free transport service to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment that are attending Wexford General Hospital; St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin; Waterford University Hospital and St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny for chemotherapy treatment. To avail of the service please contact your oncology team and ask them to refer you to the service.   

BEREVEMENT:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Florence (Flo) Dickson, beloved wife of Fred and loving mother of Nigel, Melissa and the late Gary, sister of Bertha (Roycroft) and the late Peggy, sadly missed by her family, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Funeral service took place in Knockeen Nursing Home, Barntown on Sunday 26th January, 2020 with cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium on Tuesday 28th January, 2020 at 2.00pm.

DIOCESAN MAGAZINE/CHURCH OF IRELAND GAZETTE:

Subscribers are asked to collect each issue from St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford. Subscriptions are due from the beginning of January, The Diocesan Magazine can now be bought in pdf format, €40 through the parish, €65 by post and €35 as a pdf. The subscription form is in the middle of the Magazine.  The Church of Ireland Gazette costs €40.00 per annum.  The new monthly publication of the Church of Ireland Gazette is highly recommended.  Any new interest please contact Rita at the office.  If there are any who do not wish to continue to receive the Diocesan Magazine or the Church of Ireland Gazette, please contact your local subscription representative.

BALLOUGHTON PARISH SALE OF WORK:

This took place in Balloughton Hall on Saturday 7th December, 2019 at 2pm. This was, as expected, a most enjoyable social event again this year.  The kind attendance and support of neighbouring parishes and the community around Balloughton was much appreciated by parishioners.  Thank you to all those who put enormous work into the array of goods, home baking and gifts for the Raffle.  The event has realised at the time of printing €3,100. 

BALLOUGHTON CHRISTMAS PARTY:

Took place in Balloughton Parish Hall on Saturday 14th December, 2019 at 4.00p.m.  We would like to thank all the parents and children for their support and a special word of thanks to Santa Claus for making an appearance, making our children very happy indeed.

CUSHEN’S COFFEE MORNING:

Thank to all who put so much work into the Coffee Morning again this year. A great array of goods were on display again this year.  Home bakes and cakes were in plentiful supply along with quality gift items for sale.  Thank you to all who supported our raffle.  The event took place on Tuesday 17th December, 2019 from 11.00a.m. and raised €860.00.  Thank you for your generous support. 

MULRANKIN CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE:

This was a wonderful celebration with delightful carol singing and playing of our accomplished musicians and our annual choir.  The service took place in St David’s Church, Mulrankin on Friday 13th December, 2019 at 7.30pm.  The congregation were invited to mulled wine and mince pies at Bargy Castle, under the kind invitation of Mrs Maeve Davison.  We express our gratitude to all who donated so generously in the retiring collection towards parish funds which amounted to €955.00 at the time of printing.

ST IBERIUS’ NATIONAL SCHOOL CAROL CONCERT:

The children of St Iberius’ National School took part in a Carol Concert on Thursday 19th December, 2019 in St. Iberius’ Church. This was a wonderful evening and the children sang and read to an excellent standard. Thank you to the teachers and staff of the school who worked so hard to prepare the children for this concert.  It was also an opportunity to express our gratitude to the outgoing Chairperson of the Board, Mrs. Vandra Deacon for her commitment and work to the school over the past two terms.  The new Chairperson of the Board is Mr. Ciarán Kavanagh, St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford.

TAGHMON CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE: 

The service took place in St. Munn’s Church, Taghmon on Friday 20th December, 2019 at 7.30pm. Thank you to the readers of the lessons and those who decorated the church.  Thank you also to Mr. John O’Brien, Organist for the service.  A most enjoyable supper was provided and much enjoyed by all attending.

The Diocesan Ecumenical Service for the week of prayer for Christian unity 2020 will take place on Sunday 19th January, 2020 in St. Iberius' Church, Wexford at 7.30p.m.    The guest preacher will be Fr. James Murphy, Adm., Rosslare.  Revd Katherine Kehoe will preach at the service on South East Radio that morning at 10.00a.m.   The service will be led by members of Ferns Ecumenical Society.

The next Bible Study will take place on Wednesday 15th January, 2020 at The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 7.30p.m.  Wednesday of each week is proposed for our Bible Studies, depending on availability.

APPRECIATION FROM CLERGY:

Canon Arthur and Susan Minion and The Revd Conor and Mollie O’Reilly each extend their appreciation to the parishioners of our Union of Parishes for their generous gifts at Christmas.  We take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year and hope you enjoyed a blessed, holy and peaceful Christmas.

BEREAVEMENT:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Ida Rothwell (nee Warren), Woodlands, Ardattin, Co. Carlow, especially her daughter Pearl and son-in-law David, Kilscoran Parish.  Funeral service took place in

St. Fiaac's Church, Clonegal followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard.

PARISH NOTES – DECEMBER 2019

BIBLE STUDY: 

Bible Study will continue every Monday at The Rectory, Park, Wexford during December except Monday 23rd and Monday 30th December, 2019.

R.N.L.I (LIFEBOAT) COFFEE MORNING:

The R.N.L.I. Coffee morning was held in the Riverbank Hotel on Friday 1st November, 2019. Mrs. Florence Jenkins extends here sincere appreciation to parishioners and friends of the R.N.L.I. who gave so generously and beyond expectation.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY:

The service this year took place on Sunday 10th November, 2019 in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford at 10.30a.m.  This was a United Service for The Union of Parishes. The Loch Garman Band under the baton of Mr. John Clancy, (with Mr. Anthony Nolan, Solo Trumpet) provided the music to accompany the hymns and will also played “Nimrod” from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, “Benedictus” by Karl Jenkins, “The Last Post” and “The Reveille”. We much appreciate the kind support of his Grace, Bishop Denis Brennan, D.D. and Reverend Fr. Aodhán Marken, Adm, Wexford Parish.  Thank you also to our Church Wardens, Mr. Ian Prescott and Mrs. Esther Lawal who were assisted by Mrs. Hazel Miller in providing the tea and refreshments after the Service.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY – KILLURIN CHURCH

A Remembrance Sunday Service was held in Killurin Church on Sunday 10th November, 2019 at 7.30p.m.  The organist for the Service was Mrs. Anna Skrine Brunton who was accompanied by Mr. Anthony Nolan on trumpet. Anthony also sounded “The Last Post” and “The Reveille” on trumpet during the Act of Remembrance.  The readings were read by Mr. Colin Walker and the Act of Remembrance was led by Mr. Irvin Rothwell.

FERNS CATHEDRAL:

An Advent Carol Service will take place in St. Edan’s Cathedral, Ferns at 5.00p.m. on Sunday 1st December, 2019.  All are most welcome.

ST. IBERIUS’ FAMILY SERVICE:

This service takes place on Sunday 1st December, 2019 in St. Iberius’

Church at 11.15a.m.  Both the junior and senior choirs of St. Iberius’ National School will take part.  The readings will be read by young people in the parish.

BALLOUGHTON PARISH SALE:

Balloughton Parish sale will take place in Balloughton Parish Hall on Saturday 7th December, 2019 from 2.00p.m to 4.30p.m. Home baking, preserves, plants, books, bric-a-brac etc. will be on sale.  This is an enjoyable social event and a very important fund raiser for St. Paul’s Church, Balloughton. Parishioners greatly appreciate the support from neighbouring parishes and the community.  Please bring friends.  For those unable to attend, donations will be gladly received by Mr. Ronnie Scanlon, Treasurer.

MOTHERS’ UNION:  M.U. Shoe Box Appeal: 

The Mothers’ Union meeting will take place at The Rectory, Park, Wexford on Tuesday 10th December, 2019 at 7.30p.m.  Members will put together shoe boxes filled with a variety of basic essentials and some gifts for benefit of Wexford Women’s Refuge.  Ms. Pauline Ennis of Wexford Women’s Refuge will also give a talk at the meeting.  Thank you to all for your invaluable service to The Mother’s Union and Parish and we look forward to the year ahead. The Christmas “get together” will take place on Tuesday 14th January, 2020 in The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 7.30pm.

MULRANKIN CAROL SERVICE:

Will take place in St. David’s Church, Mulrankin on Friday 13th December, 2019 at 7.30p.m.  We look forward hearing again our local orchestral ensemble as they provide music for the service.

BALLOUGHTON YOUTH CLUB:

Christmas Party:  A Christmas Party will take place in Balloughton Hall on Saturday 14th December, 2019 at 4.00p.m.  Please keep the date free.  The names of all children interested in attending should be made known to Rita in the Parish Office by text on

LOCH GARMAN BAND CONCERT:

Will take place on Friday 20th December, 2019 at 7.30p.m.

ST. IBERIUS’ 4 DAY FAST:

Will start on Friday 20th December, 2019 at 6.00p.m. and will conclude on Christmas Eve. Fr. Aodhán Marken will join Canon Arthur Minion on the steps of St. Iberius’ Church again this year.  This provides us with an opportunity to express our appreciation to all who contributed towards the sum of €46,000.00 received last year.  The clergy will stand with the collection boxes on the street each day from 9.30a.m. until the church closes. 

ECUMENICAL 4 DAY FAST - CHRISTMAS EVE CAROL SERVICE:

This Service will take place in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford on Christmas Eve at 4.00p.m.

BEREAVEMENT:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Ann Williams, Rosslare Harbour, Co. Wexford, beloved wife of the late George and mother of Rhonda, Laura, Roger and the late Gary, sister of Steven and Bill.  Funeral service took place in St. Enochs Church, Killinick followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium.

BEREAVEMENT:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Dinah Molloy-Thompson late of Rockwell Cove, Blackrock, Co. Dublin and formerly of Neamstown, Co. Wexford and Pimlico, London who died on 29th October, 2019, peacefully, at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin; widow of the late Eric Thompson (Barnet, London).  Sadly missed by her many friends and those in the orchestral and chamber music world and polar studies associated with The Scott Polar Institute, Cambridge. “The Lord is my shepherd”

PARISH NOTES – NOVEMBER 2019

 

FERNS DIOCESAN ECUMENICAL SOCIETY:

The Autumn Quiet Day took place on Tuesday 15th October, 2019 in Ballyvaloo Retreat Centre, Blackwater from 11.15a.m. to 4.00p.m.  Revd Des Bain, former President of the Methodist Church led our Quiet Day in two addresses this year.  The Revd Bain has worked extensively in Ecumenical Relations between the Christian Churches.

Autumn Lecture:  This year’s Autumn Lecture will take place on Thursday 21st November, 2019 in The Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy at 7.30p.m.  The guest speaker will be Mr. David Turner, Director of Church in Chains.  Church in Chains is an independent Irish Charity that encourages prayer and action in support of persecuted Christians worldwide, with special focus on China, Egypt, Eritrea, India, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Syria, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

WEXFORD FESTIVAL OPERA THANKSGIVING EUCHARIST:

Wexford Festival Opera Thanksgiving Eucharist took place in St. Iberius’ Church on Sunday 20th October, 2019 at 11.15a.m.  We extend our appreciation to the guest choir, Wexford Festival Singers who led the music of the service this year, accompanied by Mr. Simon Harden, organist, Dr. Kevin O’Carroll, Musical Director and Mr. Anthony Nolan on trumpet.  The readings were read by Deputy Brendan Howlin, Leader of the Labour Party and Dr. David Agler, Artistic Director, Wexford Festival Opera and Fr. Aodhán Marken, ADM, Wexford Parish.  This was a United Service of our Union of Parishes.  The Celebrant and Guest Preacher was the Right Revd Bishop Michael Burrows, Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory. `There were ten Lunchtime Recitals in St. Iberius’ Church during the Opera Festival in aid of the Opera, which started on Wednesday 23rd October at 1.05p.m.  There was a most impressive attendance at these concerts again this year.

The fringe event Art Exhibition in St. Iberius’ Church this year displayed the work of the internationally acclaimed expressionist painter, Michael Mulcahy.  The exhibition brought an influx of expressionist devotees among many others who came to see the exhibition.

KILSCORAN PARISH, BISHOP’S VISIT:

Bishop Michael presided at a celebration of Holy Communion in St. Peter’s Church, Kilscoran on Sunday 20th October, 2019 at 9.30a.m.

DIOCESAN SYNOD:

The 2019 Diocesan Synod took place on Wednesday 23rd October in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow.  Thank you to our dutiful Synodspersons who attended from the Parish.    

BALLOUGHTON YOUTH CLUB:

Balloughton Family Service:  The next family service in St. Paul’s Church, Balloughton will take place on Sunday 17th November, 2019 at 9.30a.m.

Christmas Party:  A Christmas Party will take place in Balloughton Hall on Saturday 14th December, 2019 at 4.00p.m.  Further details will appear in next month’s issue.  Please keep the date free.

R.N.L.I (LIFEBOAT) COFFEE MORNING:

The R.N.L.I. Coffee morning will be held in the Riverbank Hotel on Friday 1st November, 2019 from 10.30a.m. to 12.30p.m.  Christmas Cards, Calendars and gifts available.  All welcome.  The R.N.L.I. Shop (beside Wexford Bridge) will be open every Saturday from

WEXFORD FESTIVAL SINGERS:

Wexford Festival Singers are delighted to present "The Creation" by Joseph Haydn featuring Soprano Ava Dodd, Tenor Andrew Gavin and Baritone David Corr.  Joining them will be Waterford Concert Orchestra and Conductor Dr. Kevin O'Carroll.  The concert will be held

in Rowe Street Church on Sunday 3rd November, 2019 at 3.00p.m. Tickets from Wexford Arts Centre Box office, online at wexfordartscentre.ie and on the door - €20.00.

WEXFORD GOLF CLUB ECUMENICAL REMEMBRANCE SERVICE:

This service will take place in Wexford Golf Club at 7.30p.m. on Friday 8th November, 2019.  All are welcome.

CHURCH OF IRELAND CHILDRENS’ MINISTRY:

A Children’s’ Ministry “Building Blocks” Conference will take place on Saturday 9th November, 2019.  The key note speaker will be the ever popular Martyn Payne.  We are awaiting further details from The Diocesan Children’s’ Office

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY:

The service this year will take place on Sunday 10th November, 2019 in St. Iberius’ Church, Wexford at 10.30a.m.  This will be a United Service for The Union of Parishes. The Loch Garman Band under the baton of Mr. John Clancy, (with Mr. Anthony Nolan, Solo Trumpet) will provide the music to accompany the hymns and will also play “Nimrod” from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, “Benedictus” by Karl Jenkins, “The Last Post” and “The Reveille”.  We will also be joined by Reverend Fr. Aodhán Marken, ADM, Wexford.  This service will be broadcast live on South East Radio.  Please note change in time.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY – KILLURIN CHURCH

There will be a Remembrance Sunday Service in Killurin Church on Sunday 10th November, 2019 at 7.30p.m.  The organist for the Service will be Mrs. Anna Skrine Brunton who will be accompanied by Mr. Anthony Nolan on trumpet. Anthony will also sound “The Last Post” and “The Reveille” on trumpet during the Act of Remembrance.

MOTHERS’ UNION:

A meeting took place on Tuesday 15th October, 2019 at The Rectory, Park, at 7.30p.m.  A talk was given my Mr. Robbie Syme on the current project he is involved with in Africa.

The next meeting of Mothers’ Union will take place in The Rectory, Park on Tuesday 12th November, 2019 at 7.30p.m. 

M.U. Shoe Box Appeal:  The plan for The Mothers’ Union meeting on Tuesday 10th December, 2019 will be the putting together of shoe boxes to the benefit of a local charity.  This matter will be discussed by members at the November meeting.

BIBLE STUDY EVENINGS:

Our Bible Study continues on all other Monday evenings in November at 7.30p.m. at The Rectory, Park, Wexford. It was good to see a few new faces over the past months.  All interested are welcome to attend at any time.

WEXFORD YOUTH CLUB:

A meeting will take place at The Rectory, Park, Wexford at 8.00p.m. on Thursday 14th November, 2019 for all who are interested in re-establishing a Youth Club in the Wexford end of the parish.  Would all those who are interested in attending please contact the Rector.

WEXFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL ECUMENICAL REMEMBRANCE SERVICE:

This service will take place in Clonard Church at 7.30p.m. on Friday 15th November, 2019.  We particularly remember those who have died within the past year and their families and friends.  Some will also remember an anniversary from years past.  All are welcome.

WEXFORD WANDERERS RUGBY CLUB ANNUAL SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE:

Our annual Service of Remembrance will take place at Wexford Wanderers Rugby Club on Friday 15th November, 2019 at 8p.m.  All are welcome.

WEXFORD LIONS CLUB: FORGOTTEN REFUGEE CHILDREN PROJECT, LEBANON:

Wexford Lions Club will host a concert on Saturday 16th November, 2019 in St. Iberius’ Church at 7.30p.m. The Wexford Male Voice Choir will be joined by a guest choir from Castlecomer for this concert.  The support of all would be greatly appreciated.

BALLOUGHTON PARISH SALE:

Balloughton Parish sale will take place in Balloughton Parish Hall on Saturday 7th December, 2019 at 2.00p.m to 4.30p.m. Home baking, preserves, plants, books, bric-a-brac etc. will be on sale.  Parishioners greatly appreciate the support from neighbouring parishes and the community.  Please bring friends.

VOLUNTARISM IN CHURCH LIFE:

We encourage as much support as possible from parishioners in assisting with a wide array

of work in all our Churches.  We would warmly welcome articles of appreciation to be

included in the Newsletter from Church Wardens in each Parish, especially where

volunteers  go beyond the normal call of duty.  Extra volunteers are needed in each of our

Churches for reading rotas, flower rotas, tea helpers and cleaning duty rotas.  This

month we note with appreciation the work of Mr. Ian Prescott, Mr. Michael Lawal, Ms.

Marion Halpin and Mrs. Marina Gambold in the preparation of St. Iberius’ Church for the

Opera Festival this year.  Marion and Marina give their Saturdays to the ongoing cleaning of

St. Iberius’ Church.  Marina also cares for all the alter linen for St. Iberius’ Church.

CONFIRMATION 2020: (inc. meeting for parents and candidates, 28th November, 2019)

Confirmation Service will be held on Saturday 21st March, 2020 in St. Iberius’ Church at 3.30p.m. The Confirmation will be much earlier this year than in previous years.  This is due to a number of factors not least the facilitation of so many Confirmations across the Diocese. A meeting of Confirmation candidates and parents will be held in The Rectory, Park on Thursday 28th November at 8.00p.m.

BAPTISM:

It was our pleasure to welcome Oliver Nabil Kahwati to the fold of the Christian Church on Sunday 27th October, 2019 in Killurin Parish Church.  Oliver is the son David and Jennifer Kahwati, brother to little James and grandson of Mr. John and Mrs. Kathleen Watson, also parishioners of Killurin Church.

BEREAVEMENT:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Tom Watson, England,

brother of John Watson, Killurin Parish.  Deeply regretted by his loving family, friends and neighbours.  “The day Thou gavest Lord, is ended”

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Ms. Helen Copeland formerly of Bridgetown, Co. Wexford, who passed away peacefully earlier this year.  Helen was daughter to Mrs. Sadie Copeland Webster of St. Iberius’ Church.  We continue to remember Sadie and her family in our prayers.  “Peace perfect peace”

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late George Lawlor.  Beloved husband of Betty, father of Pauline, Sinead and George (Mayor of Wexford), brother of the late Kathleen, Nicky and Jimmy. Sadly missed by his loving wife, son, daughters, daughter-in-law Yvonne, grandchildren Christina, Sarah, Rachel and Ruth.
