This year we used the Youth Alpha course as part of our preparation
course. The youth alpha course involves a multimedia teaching approach
and it looks at topic from ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why did Jesus die?’ to ‘How & why should I read the Bible?’ We also supplemented this course
with specific aspects of the Church of Ireland such as Church structure, Church governance and Holy Communion.
Confirmation Retreat 2018:
Young people from the diocese of Ferns will attend a pre- confirmation retreat over the 2018 Easter break, from Wednesday 4th April to Friday 6th April in Rivervalley Resort, Redcross, Co.Wicklow. Young people from the parishes of Wexford, Athy, Ferns and Ardamine, Kilnamanagh and Monamolin will attend this three day retreat.
Activities at the retreat will include: glamping, worship, movies, crazy golf,
archery and air rifle shooting, discussions, sports and much more.
Worship and talks are an important aspect to the retreat each year. All the young people who attend are at an important point in their personal journey with God. Very soon, each of them will be asked to accept the faith and take on the promises which were made for them at their baptism. The retreat spent time focusing on the participants personal faith, encouraging
them to think about where they are with God right now and how they are feeling about their upcoming confirmation. Canon Arthur Minion will speak to the young people about Holy Communion and its significance
to our faith and the importance of prayer and staying connected to God. He
will also speak about how essential it is that young people remain connected
to their churches and take their place in the body of Christ.
Throughout the retreat there will be also a prayer tent set up so that the young people can go in at any point and pray. It was very much a chill out zone with fairy lights, throws and cushions decorating the room. Multi-sensory prayers will be laid out around the room which will encourage the young people to pray for their own needs and the needs of the world. To say sorry for what they had done wrong and to understand how much God loves them They also have an opportunity to write a letter to themselves outlining how they feel about God and their upcoming Confirmation. These letters will be posted back to the participants in the future.
